India and Tunisia have maintained diplomatic relations since Tunisia's independence in 1956, building on Non-Aligned Movement solidarity and a modest trade relationship. India imports phosphates and olive oil from Tunisia while exporting pharmaceuticals, textiles, and machinery. The 2011 Arab Spring originated in Tunisia, and the country's subsequent democratic transition (2011-2019) and more recent political centralisation under President Kais Saied have been watched from India with non-judgmental interest consistent with India's non-interference principle.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
India-Tunisia relations are stable and commercially grounded in phosphate and olive oil imports, pharmaceutical exports, and IT service potential. Political ties are maintained at a professional level without the warmth of the NAM era. Tunisia's political centralisation has not affected bilateral engagement. Olive oil and specialty food trade represent a growing commercial opportunity as Indian consumer preferences evolve.
