India and Slovenia established diplomatic relations in 1992 following Slovenia's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia. The relationship inherits something of the warm India-Yugoslavia tradition, though at a much more modest scale than India's ties with Serbia. Pharmaceutical exports from India and IT services form the commercial backbone, and Slovenia's position as a northern Adriatic gateway between Central Europe and the Mediterranean gives it logistical relevance for Indian trade with the broader region.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
India-Slovenia relations are stable, modest, and commercially functional. Pharmaceutical exports and growing Indian tourism are the most visible bilateral activities. Slovenia's EU and NATO membership positions it within the broader India-Europe framework, and its EU Council Presidency enhanced its profile in India's European diplomacy. No major new initiative is underway.
