India and Serbia share a relationship built on the legacy of exceptionally warm India-Yugoslavia ties — Yugoslavia was a co-founder of the Non-Aligned Movement alongside India, and Belgrade and New Delhi enjoyed decades of close cooperation. After Yugoslavia's dissolution, India has maintained strong ties with Serbia as its principal successor state, with pharmaceutical exports, defence cooperation (including MiG maintenance), and political alignment on sovereignty issues defining the contemporary relationship.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
The India-Serbia relationship is warm and stable, grounded in deep historical ties and current-day alignment on key diplomatic positions (Kosovo, UN reform, sovereignty norms). Trade is growing; pharmaceuticals lead India's exports and defence cooperation continues through MiG servicing and other channels. Serbia's EU membership process has not disrupted its independent foreign policy, and India-Serbia ties remain strong independent of the EU-India track.
