India and Paraguay maintain cordial bilateral relations, primarily anchored in agricultural trade and pharmaceutical exports. Paraguay is one of the world's top exporters of soya, beef, and sesame — commodities of interest to India's food processing and edible oil industries. India exports pharmaceuticals, textiles, and manufactured goods to Paraguay. The relationship is limited in political depth but stable in commercial engagement. Paraguay recognises Taiwan (one of 12 countries to do so), a factor that India is conscious of in its own Taiwan-related diplomacy.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
India-Paraguay relations are stable and modestly commercial. Agricultural trade — particularly sesame imports and pharmaceutical exports — provides the substantive economic connection. No major bilateral initiative is underway, but the potential India-MERCOSUR FTA upgrade would be the most consequential development for bilateral commerce if concluded. Paraguay's Taiwan recognition is a background diplomatic consideration managed through careful language. ITEC cooperation sustains a small but consistent people-to-people connection.
