FIPIC MEMBERCLIMATE VULNERABLESMALL ISLAND STATEUN MEMBER
Niue is among the world's smallest self-governing territories — a raised coral island in the South Pacific with a population of approximately 1,600 in free association with New Zealand. India and Niue established diplomatic relations in 1974, though practical bilateral engagement has been minimal for most of this period. The Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC), launched in 2014, has provided Niue — as a UN member — a structured channel for India's development assistance, focused on climate resilience, solar energy, healthcare, and connectivity for this extremely vulnerable microstate.

CURRENT STATE
Where things stand, 2026
India-Niue relations are appropriately scaled for the smallest member of the FIPIC grouping — a territory of 1,600 people whose engagement with India is entirely channelled through the multilateral framework. FIPIC provides Niue access to Indian development resources meaningful in the context of its tiny scale. There is no bilateral trade, diaspora, or defence relationship of note.
