India and Morocco have built a strategic partnership anchored in a critical commodity relationship: Morocco controls approximately 70% of the world's known phosphate reserves, and India is the world's largest importer of phosphate rock for its fertiliser industry. The OCP Group-India partnership is one of the most consequential commodity supply relationships in Indian agriculture. Beyond phosphates, India exports pharmaceuticals and manufactured goods to Morocco, Indian tourist arrivals are growing, and both countries coordinate on Africa-focused multilateral platforms.

Where things stand, 2026
The India-Morocco relationship is anchored firmly in the phosphate-fertiliser supply chain, which is structurally irreplaceable in the short to medium term. The IFFCO-OCP joint venture is operational and expanding. Pharmaceutical exports continue to grow. The relationship has demonstrated strategic depth through India's HADR response to the 2023 earthquake. A PTA remains a medium-term target but faces domestic tariff-sensitivity hurdles on both sides.
