India & Gabon

INDIA-AFRICA FRAMEWORKMANGANESE IMPORTSITEC PARTNERISA MEMBER

India and Gabon enjoy warm bilateral relations underpinned by significant economic complementarities — Gabon is the world's second-largest producer of manganese and a major supplier of timber and vegetable oils to India, while Indian companies have invested approximately USD 2.5 billion in Gabon across telecom, mining, agriculture, and infrastructure. India opened a full High Commission in Libreville in September 2024, elevating the diplomatic profile of the relationship. Both countries cooperate within the India-Africa Forum Summit framework.

CURRENT STATE

Where things stand, 2026

The relationship is growing, with the opening of India's resident High Commission in Libreville in 2024 marking a new chapter. Mining investment cooperation (MOIL-led delegation, August 2025) and healthcare partnerships are expanding. Defence ties are nascent but formalising through Aero India participation and MILAN 2026. The ITEC slots are fully utilised. Trade is volatile due to commodity price swings but structurally anchored by manganese and timber.
