India and Comoros maintain diplomatic relations since 1976, with a relationship anchored in Indian Ocean solidarity, ITEC capacity building, and India's SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) maritime policy. Comoros is a member of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), in which India plays a leading role. The Indian Ocean archipelago's strategic position between Madagascar and Mozambique gives it significance in India's extended maritime neighbourhood.
